The Tagged Tanakh is the engine that propels YAVNET. Tagging (attaching descriptive labels to information) is a way for Internet users to mark, store, retrieve, share, and link valuable information that they find online. The dialogue and dialectic that has for millennia been the hallmark of Jewish learning assumes digital form through the process of tagging.
Tagging gives people a chance to comment on passages from the Hebrew Bible, to link these texts to other online content, and to organize them according to their personal interests or the shared needs of their community.
Tagging builds connections between people and information. Whether you’re a Jewish professional delving into the original Hebrew text, an adult Jewish learner engaged in text study, a student preparing for a bar/bat mitzvah in need of an accessible English translation, or a newcomer to Judaism, The Tagged Tanakh offers each person a chance to connect with Judaism on his or her own terms and level of expertise.
We are currently developing a prototype of the Tagged Tanakh using Exodus 1-20 and the Song of Songs as the basis.

Look for the Tagged Tanakh to go live in 2009!
