YAVNET intends to make Jewish texts and learning accessible and dynamic. We are a laboratory for new ideas integrating technology, education and social design.

Tagged Tanakh

Central to YAVNET is the development of “The Tagged Tanakh,” a digital Torah, which brings into the 21st century the Jewish tradition of personally engaging with core Jewish texts. The Tagged Tanakh is the YAVNET feature that will enable people to enter into dialogue with Jewish texts and values that have been at the root of Jewish identity and community for generations.

Visual Midrash Group

Welcome to the second installment of YAVNET’s visual midrash group with Debra Linesch. Our first exercise in creatively engaging Torah focused on Nitzavim and Standing at Sinai. Creating a Digital Mishnah

2,000 years ago a diverse group of survivors gathered together in the Galilee to reimagine Judaism for their time. The fruits of their labor, named MISHNAH by the later tradition, sustained Jewish life in Israel and the Diaspora for a remarkable length of time. For some contemporary Jews, their words continue to provide guidance on all aspects of life.
Today, recognizing the dramatic changes of the past 100 years, we are regathering to build on the past and start again. As the rabbis of ancient times used the tools of their moment to write a new kind of text, we are using the tools of the digital age in ours.
